The Hotel Del Coronado On Coronado Beach

Among the endless beaches of Southern California some of the very best beaches are on Coronado Island which is linked to downtown San Diego by the Island Bay Bridge.

A visit wouldn’t be complete without  taking in the world famous Victorian styled Hotel Del Coronado. Built in 1888 it was one of the biggest and finest hotels of that time. The hotel has been patronized by many celebrities including The Duchess of Windsor and Marilyn Monroe. The stunning views of the San Diego coast and first class service are a major attraction and draw people from all over the world. Their in house restaurant is regarded as one of the best in the San Diego area and you are welcome there whether or not you are a guest. Thousands of guests come to Coronado each year specifically just to stay at the hotel every year – yes, it’s reputation is that good.

Coronado Island can also be reached by ferry and the Ferry Landing Marketplace  offers up several dozen restaurants, art galleries and shops for your enjoyment. After you walk around the marketplace you may want to head over to the beautiful Tidelands Park.

There you’ll find spectacular views of the San Diego skyline along with walking and bicycling paths. This a great place to be at sunset.  There’s even a farmer’s market here every Tuesday.

But the biggest reason to visit Coronado is Coronado Beach which is uncrowded even in the summer allowing for plenty of room for your enjoyment.

If you’re up for it you can take a walking tour from the Glorietta Bay Inn.  Available several times a week, you’ll enjoy the best of Coronado. A great way to see and learn about the island and get some exercise at the same time. Or if you’re not so energetic or maybe you find it romantic, you can hire a pedicab for a leisurely cruise.

It will certainly take your mind off your daily grind. Another  romantic side trip is a ride through the canals of Coronado Cays. Coronado Island is easily accessed from San Diego by the Coronado Bay Bridge exit off the I-5 or by water via the Coronado Ferry which runs hourly from 9:00 am to 10: pm. The walk from the Ferry to Hotel Coronado is a little over a mile.
