Is there a best time for a Lake Tahoe vacation?

Although many have heard of the unique and fabulous beauty of Lake Tahoe, the question of when is the best time to plan a vacation there is a common one. Since Lake Tahoe sits high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains at approximately 6,000 ft. elevation,
storms are quite common especially in the winter. One can easily get caught off guard and unprepared as blizzards  or thunderstorms can quickly materialize out of seemingly nowhere.

Snowstorms and thunderstorms are common from September on through June and you should always have snow chains with you just in case. It goes without saying to always keep a close eye on the local weather forecast. You can always expect cooler in the summer and colder in the winter temperatures the higher in elevation you are.
With that in mind always have some warmer clothes and emergency supplies with you. Take the boy scouts’ motto to heart and BE Prepared!
